Endangered Bodies Launches Global Campaign: #SurgeryIsNotAGame

January 30, 2017     By Sharon Haywood

On January 30th, 2017 all Endangered Bodies chapters, including AnyBody Argentina and AnyBody/Endangered Bodies UK launched our second international campaign, #SurgeryIsNotAGame, alongside Brazil, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and the United States in conjunction with Change.org using 8 linked petitions. Our societies are saturated with images of perfect and unattainable bodies, and according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery over 21 million cosmetic procedures are being performed throughout the world (2015). The dissatisfaction many adults face with their bodies has trickled down to our children, which is reinforced and normalized through “games” such as these free apps, directed at kids, mostly girls, as young as three. As a result, we have created this global petition asking Apple, Google and Amazon to implement a clear policy that they will not accept any such apps that are targeted at children in the name of making a commitment to protect the mental health of their young users.
